THE SPIRIT OF IRELAND

Dingle PeninsulaThe Spirit of Ireland: an Eight Day Guided Walk

Rugged coastline. Green hills. Mist-covered mountains. Archaeology. Welcoming people. It’s all part of the eight-day guided walk in the south-west area of Ireland’s colourful coast: the Dingle Peninsula.

The trip begins and ends at Tralee. Each walking day, you’ll cover between 14 and 16 km of this mountainous finger of land, jutting into the Atlantic Ocean.

You’ll walk south to the pretty fishing town of Dingle, and explore the spectacular promontory at Slea Head before eventually cutting back to Cloghane on the northern side of the peninsula. En route, there’s the Slieve Mist Mountains, about 350 million years older than the Alps, the wild bird sanctuary of Tralee Bay, the 8th century monastery of Killelton, the Three Sisters where Lindbergh first spotted land after his Trans-Atlantic flight, the beautiful Pater Noster lakes and more than 2,000 archaeological sites, Iron Age forts and beehive huts to attest to the 6000-year-old history. And everywhere you’ll find the joyful good cheer for which the Irish are so justifiably famous.

Accommodations are carefully selected guesthouses and bed & breakfasts to reflect the character of the region, with two nights spent in Tralee, three nights near Dingle, and two nights in the tiny hamlet of Cloghane. A full breakfast is included each day, as is a picnic lunch each walking day and evening dinners reflecting the hearty country food associated with the region.

This walk is part of Peregrine’s (a great adventure tour operator) newly launched Walking & Cycling Program Of Europe, featuring both group and independent (self-led) trips in Spain, France, Italy and Ireland.

Land-only prices for the eight days begin at $1,505, including an experienced local leader, all transfers, private vehicles and five day walks. Departures from Tralee are April 19, May 17, June 7 & 28, August 2 & 23, September 13, and October 4.
